Volleyball Sweeps Lafayette Friday Night
The Blue Devils return to action with two matches Saturday.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team downed Lafayette in straight sets, 3-0, on Friday night at the Crosstown Invitational in Easton, PA. The Blue Devils were led by freshman Samantha McCreath with 11 kills and 15 digs to go with five blocks as they improved to 2-2 on the season.
CCSU took the match by scores of 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 and held the Leopards to a .041 hitting percentage in the match.
Central will face Lehigh and Norfolk State on Saturday to close out play in the tournament.
Senior Lindsey Massicotte tallied 21 digs, while McCreath added 15. Sophomore Erin McDermott had a team-high 19 assists and freshman Jordyn Dube posted 11 assists. The Blue Devils put up 10 blocks as a team, led by McCreath and senior Maddie Smith with five apiece.
Lafayette led 12-9 early in the opening set, but CCSU would run off a 6-1 run to take the lead for good. The Blue Devils won the final five points of the set to take the opening frame.
The Blue Devils scored five straight points in the second set to build a 5-1 lead. The Leopards would tie the set at 23-23, but CCSU took advantage of two errors to take the frame and lead the match, 2-0.
Central scored the first three points of the third set and would use a 8-0 run to go ahead 12-2. The Blue Devils did not allow the Leopards closer than five points the rest of the way and a kill by sophomore Madelyn Kaprelyan closed out the match.
CCSU will face Lehigh at 10:00 a.m. in Bethlehem, PA, and then take on Norfolk St. at 1:00 p.m. to close out the tournament.
