Volleyball Stopped at Bryant, 3-1
The Blue Devils return home to host St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, Nov. 5.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team dropped a Northeast Conference match at Bryan, 3-1, on Friday night in Smithfield, RI. The Blue Devils' record moves to 12-10 overall and 7-3 in conference play.
Senior Cassidy Stankowski led CCSU with 12 kills, while sophomore Raquel Quirarte added 10 kills. Sophomore Kaitlyn Kushman finished with 20 assists and 10 digs, while freshman Erin McDermott chipped in with 18 assists and 12 digs. Senior Brooke Schwab finished with a team-high eight blocks and junior Maddie Smith added seven blocks.
The Bulldogs scored six straight points to build a 10-4 lead in the opening set. The Blue Devils would trim the deficit to 24-21 with four straight points, but Bryant would close out the set with a 25-21 win.
Bryant erased an eight-point deficit in the second set, using an 8-1 run to close out the set and win, 25-23, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Central opened the third set by building a 10-4 lead after Schwab served three straight points. A 5-0 run helped Bryant close within, 17-16, but a kill by Stankowski would end the run and CCSU held the lead throughout the rest of the set. A kill by freshman Morgan Woycik closed out the set and gave Central a 25-22 win.
CCSU trailed, 14-10, in the fourth set before chipping away at the Bryant lead and tying the set at 19-19 following a run of four unanswered points. A kill by Quirarte would give the Blue Devils a 23-21 lead before the Bulldogs responded with four straight points to close the set out, 25-23, and take the match.
