Volleyball wins 3-0 at St. Francis Brooklyn
Central plays at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team swept St. Francis Brooklyn, 3-0, to remain undefeated in Northeast Conference play on Saturday. The Blue Devils improve to 11-7 overall and 6-0 in NEC play.
Sophomore Raquel Quirarte led CCSU with 14 kills and hit .364. Freshman Morgan Woycik added 11 kills. Sophomore Kaitlyn Kushman had 34 assists to go with nine digs. Senior Rachel Fish led the Blue Devils with 10 digs.
The Blue Devils led 17-10 in the opening set before the Terriers came back to tie the set 20-20. CCSU would hold off SFBK in the set for a 29-27 win.
In the second set Central went out to a 4-1 lead following a kill by junior Maddie Smith. CCSU pushed its lead to 17-9 after a kill by Quirarte and then closed the set out with six straight points to win 25-13.
Central led, 12-5, in the third set before the Terriers rolled off five unanswered points to cut the deficit to two points. Three straight CCSU points, including two kills by Smith, made it 15-10. St. Francis would close within a point, but Woycik would close the set out, 25-22, and end the match.
The Blue Devils play at LIU Brooklyn at 1:00 pm on Sunday.
