Volleyball Drops Season Finale At Robert Morris, 3-1
The Blue Devils dropped their season finale on Sunday afternoon to Robert Morris, 3-1.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell at Robert Morris, 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-23, 0-0), in its season finale on Sunday afternoon in Moon Township, PA. Senior Makenna Lommori posted a triple-double in her final game for a Blue Devil team that ends the season with an overall record of 11-16 and 3-11 mark in NEC play. Robert Morris improves to 17-12 and 11-3 in the NEC with the win.
The Colonials held a slight advantage early in the first set until junior Nicole Dean earned a kill and tied the match 4-4. RMU would retake the lead and hold it for the majority of the first set until the Blue Devils came storming back with three straight points late in the set to tie it 19-19. The quick spurt was capped off with a block assist from junior Brooke Schwab and senior Heather Trueman. Then CCSU would eventually take a 23-21 lead after back-to-back kills by Lommori and Trueman, but the Blue Devils couldn't stave off the Colonials and dropped the set 26-24.
Central raced out to a quick start in the second set, taking an early 8-1 lead. However, RMU would fight back and tie the set late 19-19 after a solo block by Liz Campbell. The two teams would trade points once again, but this time it was the Blue Devils who would prevail 25-23 after Lommori found the floor for the set-winning kill.
The third set proved to be a back-and-forth affair in its entirety. Neither team led by more than three points throughout the entire set and it was deadlocked 14 different times. After trailing 13-10, CCSU came back to tie the match and then took an 18-17 lead on another one of Lommori's 17 kills in the match. Central couldn't hang on though as RMU tied it up, 22-22, on two-straight kills from Kristin Thompson and then would eventually prevail 25-23.
The final set was controlled by Colonials from the beginning. They jumped out to an early 7-1 advantage and would lead throughout the entire set taking it 25-16 and the match 3-1.
Lommori finished with 26 assists and 10 digs to go along with her 17 kills to post back-to-back triple-doubles on the weekend. She also added a pair of block assists and a service ace. Trueman registered 13 kills, hitting .286 in the match. She also logged five digs and assisted on three blocks. Senior Ashley Lennington also posted 26 assists helping run the CCSU offense and defensively, junior Rachel Fish had a team-high 18 digs.
The Colonials hit .279 in the match compared to the Blue Devils .195 hitting percentage. Thompson led the way for RMU with a 17 kills. She was joined by April Krivoniak and Taylor Lord in double-figure kills with 14 and 10, respectfully.
