
Women's Track & Field Leads NEC Championships
Cancellieri and Stewart lead the way by earning silver medals
The Central Connecticut State women's outdoor track and field team earned three medals on the opening day of the 2025 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Blue Devils have 46 points and are atop a tightly bunched team leader board. Saint Francis is second with 43 points, with FDU and Stonehill tied for third with 40 points and Wagner fifth with 36 points.
The championship, hosted by Stonehill College, will conclude on Sunday. Throws and field events begin at 9:30 am and track events begin at noon.
FINALS
- Juliana Cancellieri earned the Blue Devils first medal of the meet, capturing silver in the 10,000m, crossing at 37:43.69
- Wenesha Stewart earned silver in the shotput, with a throw of 13.92m in the final round, leading three Blue Devils to score in the event
- The Blue Devils took bronze in the first relay of the meet, the 4x800, with Kayle Gravel, Rachel Bartolucci, Oliwia Marecik and Mya Morabito ran 9:19.45
- Rebecca Carusone picked up five points, placing fourth, with a 39:26.84 run in the 10,000 and Alyssa Carusone earned two points, in seventh, with a run of 46:24.79
- Marina Perry earned fourth-place in the shot put, throwing 12.84m and Sarah Ovesny was sixth with a 12.24m effort
- Hailey Sousa cleared 3.25m in the pole vault, good for fifth-place and four points
- Perry picked up three points in the hammer throw, with a sixth-place finish after a throw of 45.84m, and Ovesny was seventh, for two points, with a 45.83m throw
PRELIMS
- Morabito qualified for the final of the 1500m with a qualifying run of 4:57.60
- Shania McCall (15.08) led three Blue Devils into the final of the 100m hurdles and is joined by Taina DeJesus (15.39) and Jasmine Ogando (15.51)
- Jessica Farrell (57.64) and Kayla Logan (58.24) are the fifth and seventh qualifiers for the 400m final
- Kaylee Gravel ran 2:15.93 in the 800m preliminary heats to earn the third seed in the finals tomorrow
- DeJesus also earned a spot in the finals of the 400m hurdles, with a qualifying run of 1:05.36
