Women's Track Closes Out at Joe Donahue Invitational on Friday
The Blue Devils competed against Northeastern, Hartford and UMass Amherst.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team competed at Joe Donahue Invitational inside of the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, MA on Friday, Jan. 19. The meet was hosted by Northeastern and featured UMass Amherst and Hartford.
Sophomore Hailey Rospierski recorded another promising showing with second and third place finishes for the Blue Devils. Rospierski took second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.21 seconds and leapt a season best 1.66 meters in the high jump to fall into third place. Junior Sierra Nesmith placed seventh in the 60 meter hurdle finals with a time of 9.64 seconds. Junior McKenna Kilian ran a 9.83 second time in the preliminary race but did not qualify.
Kilian also recorded a jump of 1.56 meters in the high jump to take sixth place.
In the mile, junior Dawn Hubbell zoomed in at 5:08.09, a new career best time, to place fifth in the standings.
Second year Blue Devil, Megan Brawner placed third overall in the 800 meter run after crossing the finish line at 2:22.44. Freshman Angie Rafter ran a solid time of 3:06.94 in the 1,000 meter event taking fourth place.
In the long jump, freshman Hannah Kelm jumped a personal best distance of 4.82 meters to take 11th place. Nesmith noted her best event of the day in the triple jump with a fifth place jump of 10.88 meters. Kelm follow the junior in eighth place after hitting the 10.01 meter mark and setting a new personal best mark.
Sophomore Arianna Taft finished the 400 meter dash in 1:04.25.
Senior Alleah Red ran a time of 8.39 seconds in the 60 meter dash and clocked in at a personal best time of 27.99 seconds in the 200 meter dash for CCSU.
On the throwing side of the meet sophomore Valeria Hernandez led the way for CCSU in the shot put with a season best throw of 10.97 meters, good for 10th place. Hernandez also threw for 10.48 meters in the weight throw.
Junior Abrah Toomey placed sixth overall in the weight throw with a collegiate best distance of 14.07 meters and threw for 9.38 meters in the shot put. Freshman Celine Delice recorded her best collegiate performance with two new personal bests. She threw for 8.51 meters in the shot put and 10.37 meters in the weight throw to round out the day of events for Central Connecticut.
The Blue Devils will compete next Friday and Saturday, January 26-27 back in Boston, MA for the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
