Swimming Outscores LIU on Senior Day
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team outscored a Northeast Conference foe for the second weekend in a row, topping LIU in a dual meet on Saturday, 162-100, at the Jack Suydam Natatorium. The Blue Devils honored their lone senior, Erin Brown, prior to the start of the dual.
Highlights
- CCSU finished 1-2 in the 400 medley relay to begin the day. Freshman Nathalie Pena, junior Alex Lindgren, freshman Ashley Calderon and junior Jeannette King finished in 3:57.35. The relay of junior Hallie Perrin, junior Mariana Espino, sophomore Shannon Welcome and junior Katie Czulewicz came in just behind in 4:01.10.
- Freshman Abbey Keane won the 1,000 free in a time of 10:38.72, outdistancing the next swimmer by 23 seconds.
- Czulewicz and junior Simona Visinski finished 1-2 in the 200 free. Czulewicz won in 1:54.53, while Visinski was just behind in 1:59.32.
- King won the 50 free with a time of 24.54. Perrin and junior Destiny Johnson finished third and fourth, with times of 25.31 and 25.56, respectively.
- King alson won the 100 free in 52.63. Visinski (54.79) and freshman Morgan O'Hara (55.36) placed third and fourth.
- Pena won the 200 backstroke in 2:07.57.
- Lindgren and sophomore Abby Bacon finished 1-2 in the 200 breaststroke. Lindgren won in 2:23.73, while Bacon touched the wall in 2:30.19.
- Czulewicz won the 500 free in 5:06.69, while Keane finished in 5:11.86 to place second.
- O'Hara bested Lindgren in the 400 IM. O'Hara won in 4:35.56, while Lindgren finished in 4:38.70.
- The Blue Devils also finished the meet with a win in the 200 free relay. The team of Czulewicz, Perrin, King and Visinski turned in a time of 1:38.78.
- Pena placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.02.
- Lindgren and Bacon finished second and third in the 100 breaststroke. Lindgren finished in 1:08.12, while Bacon turned in a time of 1:10.05.
- A trio of Blue Devils finished 2-3-4 in the 200 fly. Welcome (2:09.24) finished second, followed by Calderon (2:11.61) and senior Erin Brown (2:14.98).
- Calderon (58.59), Welcome (58.80) and Brown (1:02.42) finished 2-3-4 in the 100 fly.
