Swimming Wins Meet at LIU on Saturday
CCSU will be host Rhode Island on Saturday for Senior Day.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team narrowly edged Northeast Conference rival Long Island University, 133-129, on Saturday at LIU Pool in Brooklyn, NY. The Blue Devils came away the victors in six events.

KEY PERFORMANCES
- The Blue Devils' first win of the meet came in the 100 yard breaststroke. Sophomore Alex Lindgren won the event (1:07.60) narrowly edging classmate Mariana Espino (1:07.92). Junior Katelyn Mann placed fourth (1:09.33).
- CCSU finished first and second in the 50 yard freestyle. Sophomores Hallie Perrin (25.47) and Simona Visinski (25.68) took the top two spots. Classmate Destiny Johnson placed fourth in 26.13.
- Central swept the top three spots in the 100 yard free. Sophomore Katie Czulewicz (53.98) led the way followed by senior Erika Maercklein (54.56) and sophomore Jeannette King (56.06).
- Lindgren won her second event of the day, winning the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:22.99. Freshman Abby Bacon earned a point with a time of 2:32.47.
- Maercklein won the 500 yard free with a time of 5:13.10. Seniors Grace Regan (5:17.49) and Grace Fredricks (5:26.48) also scored in the event for CCSU.
- The Blue Devils won the 200 yard freestyle relay in the final event of the day. The team of Maercklein, Johnson, Regan and freshman Shannon Welcome won with a time of 1:39.10.
