Swimming and Diving Trails New Hampshire After Day One of Dual Meet

The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team trails the University of New Hampshire 98-85 after the first night of the a dual meet on Friday night in New Britain. Day two begins on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Blue Devils opened the night with a two second victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Senior Lauren Czulewicz, junior Kaitlyn Troy, sophomore Alexis Fredricks and senior Maddy Garber finished in a time of 1:40.18 to claim 11 points for the home squad. The team of freshman Erin Brown, sophomore Grace Fredricks, junior Aidan Devers and junior Victoria Poole was third in 1:44.75.
Czulewicz then finished third in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.49. Alexis Fredricks was fourth in the same event at 2:01.28 while Grace Fredricks was sixth in 2:03.76.
Devers finished second in the 100 yard backstroke in 58.79. Troy was third in 1:01.23 while Brown finished fifth in 1:04.36.
Garber won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.61 and sophomore Grace Regan was third in 1:07.06.
Sophomore Valentina Gomez won the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:05.20.
Sophomore Kirsten Bednarz finished fourth in the 1 meter diving event with a score of 165.85.
Czulewicz was second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.84, while Troy was third in 25.42 and Alexis Fredricks was fourth in 25.91.
Garber finished second in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:13.08. Sophomore Keelin Kendall was fourth in 2:15.25.
Gomez won her second event of the night with a time of 17:35.79 in the 1650 freestyle. She edged out the UNH swimmer by .08 seconds to earn the nine points for CCSU. The Blue Devils then capped the night with a first place finish in the 400 yard medley relay. Devers, Garber, Gomez and Czulewicz posted a time of 3:53.88 for the victory.
