Swimming and Diving Hosts Day One of Meet With St. Bonaventure and Sacred Heart
Blue Devils lead SHU and trail St. Bonaventure After Friday Night's Events
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team began the 2017-18 season on FRiday night, hosting the first of a two day meet with St. Bonaventure and Sacred Heart. The Blue Devils lead SHU 97-70 and trail St. Bonaventure 98-68 after the first night of events.
The second day of events will begin on Saturday with the diving events at 9 a.m.
The Blue Devils began the night with a second place finish in the 200 free relay. Sophomore Erika Maercklein, senior Lauren Czulewicz, junior Kaitlyn Troy and sophomore Alexis Fredricks swam a time of 1:39.08 to begin the night for the Blue Devils.
Central played third, fourth and fifth in the 200 yard freestyle as Czulewicz (1:57.74), sophomore Valentina Gomez (1:58.02) and sophomore Grace Regan (1:58.64) all scored points.
Troy finished second in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.18. Sophomore Keelin Kendall was fifth in the same race with a time of 1:01.88.
Senior Maddy Garber won the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:04.48 to claim the victory. Maercklein was third in the same race with a time of 1:06.06.
Gomez won the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.43.
Czulewicz swam 24.95 in the 50 freestyle to finish in third place.
Garber finished second in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.60. Regan was third in 2:14.05.
Gomez won the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:42.34. Kendall was fourth in the same event in 10:58.26.
The Blue Devils finished the night with a second place finish in the 400 yard medley relay as Troy, Garber, Fredricks and Maercklein finished in a time of 4:00.69.
The second day of the event will begin with both diving events at 9 a.m. The swimming events will continue at 12 noon.
