Swimming and Diving Drops Home Meet to Vermont
Blue Devils back in action next weekend at Rutgers
Sophomore Maddy Garber won the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke but the Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team dropped a home meet vs. the University of Vermont 197.5 to 102.5 on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils will be in action next weekend at the Frank Elm Invite at Rutgers.
Garber posted wins in the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststroke events on Saturday. She started her day with a first place finish in the 100 breast, posting a time of 1:05.03 and finishing almost a full second ahead of second place finisher Shannon Cowley of Vermont. Central senior Alaina Papiro was third in the event at 1:05.96, while freshman Kailey Demers was fifth at 1:09.56.
Garber's second win came in the 200 breast and this time her win was by almost five seconds. Her time of 2:21.29 topped a pair of UVM swimmers while Demers finished fourth in a time of 2:28.22.
Central opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay finishing with a time of 1:48.45, just over half a second behind Vermont. The team of freshman Kaitlyn Troy, Garber, junior Lisa Ward and junior Christine Rasile paced the Blue Devils in the race.
In the 1,000 yard free seniors Selene Chilton (11:02.24) and Reyna Zascirinskis (11:13.40) finished third and fourth for the Blue Devils. Sophomore Lauren Czulewicz (1:55.53) and junior Christine Rasile (1:56.29) finished second and fourth in the 200 yard free.
Ward finished second in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.79 and junior Sabree Thomas was tied for fourth with a time of 2:14.24. Sophomore Lauren Czulewicz was third in the 50 yard free at 24.97 and classmate Lauren Rasile finished fourth in the same race at 25.16.
Senior Kaitlyn Beaver was second in the 1 meter diving with a score of 226.50 and freshman Brianna Buehler was third with a score of 188.55. In the 3 meter event Beaver also finished second with a score of 211.12 while Buehler was again third with a score of 206.77.
In the 100 yard freestyle Christine Rasile was third at 53.92 and Lauren Czulewicz was fourth in 54.40. Ward was second in the 100 yard fly in a time of 59.62.
Freshman Aidan Devers finished first in the 200 yard backstroke by over four seconds with a time of 2:06.57.
