Swimming and Diving Tops Bryant on Friday, 192-108

The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team posted a dominant 192-108 home victory over Bryant on Friday night in the Jack Suydam Natatorium. The Blue Devils placed first in 12 of the 14 swimming events on the night to post their first home victory of the season.
The Blue Devils began the meet with a win in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of freshman Kaitlyn Troy, sophomore Maddy Garber, junior Lisa Ward and sophomore Lauren Rasile swam 1:48.04 to post a three second win and earn the first 11 points of the meet for the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils also took third in the race as sophomore Katie MacDonnell, senior Alaina Papiro, junior Sabree Thomas and sophomore Maeve Awiszus finished just behind the second place team of Bryant in 1:52.41.
Central took third and fourth in the 100 yard free style as Awiszus (11:00.10) and senior Reyna Zascirinskis (11:10.66) picked up five more points for the Blue Devils.
Junior Christine Rasile won the 200 yard freestyle event in a time of 1:53.81. Sophomore Lauren Czulewicz was third (1L55.05) and freshman Aidan Devers was fourth (1:58.99).
Troy posted her first individual win of the night with a first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 59.27. Junior Stephanie Czulewicz was fourth with a time of 1:01.56, and MacDonnell was fifth in 1:02.35.
Garber posted the first of her two individual victories posting a time of 1:04.32 in the 100 yard breaststroke. Papiro made it 1-2 in the race with a time of 1:07.01. Freshman Kailey Demers was fourth at 1:08.72.
Ward won the 200 yard butterfly over teammate Thomas, with times of 2:09.72 and 2:12.31 respectively. Senior Selene Chilton was fourth in the event at 2:16.29. Thomas and Ward would battle later in the night in the 100 yard fly, with each posting a time of 59.18 to share first place. Freshman Mollie Coleman was fifth in the race at 1:02.70.
Christine Rasile finished second and Lauren Rasile was third in the 50 yard freestyle with times of 24.64 and 24.74. Lauren Czulewicz was fourth at 24.99.
Christine Rasile posted a win in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.54, while Lauren Czulewicz was third (54.30) and Lauren Rasile (54.92) was fourth. Devers posted a win in the 200 yard backstroke for the Blue Devils with a time of 2:06.52. Troy was fourth (2:12.70) and Stephanie Czulewicz was fifth (2:13.79).
Garber's second individual win of the night came in the 200 yard breastroke with a time of 2:21.82. Demers was second (2:26.66) and Papiro was third (2:27.60) as the Blue Devils finished 1-2-3 in the race.
The Blue Devils took second place in both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events. In the 1 meter it was sophomore Annemarie Durham finished second with a score of 232.80. In the 3 meter event Durham finished third (217.65) and it was senior Kaitlyn Beaver who finished second with a score of 225.52.
Devers won the 500 yard freestyle for the Blue Devils with a time of 5:18.20. MacDonnell (5:25.32) was third and junior Julia St. Pierre (5:25.89) was fourth.
Ward won the 200 yard IM in 2:11.03 and Garber was second in 2:12.73. The team of Christine Rasile, Lauren Czulewicz, Papiro and Lauren Rasile won the 400 yard freestyle relay to cap off the victory for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils will be back in action at home next Saturday, November 14, hosting Vermont at the Suydam Natatorium.
