The junior was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team
Central Connecticut women's soccer midfielder Roma McLaughlin was named to the Division I Women's Soccer All-America Third Team, announced by the United Soccer Coaches on Thursday. McLaughlin was chosen to the All-American team for the second time, after she made the second team in 2019.
The junior added the third team recognition to her impressive season. She was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region First-Team, along with her teammates Jenna Rae Covello and Erica Bardes who were named to the second team. McLauglin was also awarded the Northeast Conference Midfielder of the Year for the second straight season and named to the All-Conference First-Team for the third consecutive year.
McLaughlin tallied 10 points and scored four goals in the shortened season. In the team's first game, the Greencastle County Donegal, Ireland native set the tone scoring a goal and adding an assist in a 4-0 victory. The junior then scored a goal in back to back games at Wagner and versus Bryant, leading the Blue Devils to an undefeated regular season at 6-0.
In the Northeast Conference Championship match, McLaughlin netted the game's first goal from the left wing in the 31st minute. Central went on to shutout LIU and win its third consecutive NEC title by a score of 4-0.
The Blue Devils closed the 2020 season in the Women's College Cup with a 3-0 loss to the University of South Florida. Central finished the season 7-1 overall and 6-0 in Northeast Conference play.
