Central Tops Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0 on Windy Friday Evening

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team took down Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0 on a windy Friday evening. Freshman Kristina Kelly provided the lone goal for CCSU, her second of the season. With the win, Central improves to 2-0 overall and in Northeast Conference play.

The Blue Devils attacked early, firing three shots in the first seven minutes of the game. Only Kristina Kelly's shot was on goal, but was saved by the keeper.

Fairleigh Dickinson received a good look from Madelyn Robbins, but her attempt was saved by Amanda McQuillan of CCSU at the 23:08 mark. The game remained scoreless heading into the half.

Central found a great opportunity early in the second half, putting three shots on goal within eight seconds. Jenna Rae Covello hit the crossbar, leaving a rebound and shot for Kelly Brady that was saved. The ball found its way to Kristina Kelly who made a quick move to her left and sent a strike into the back of the net. The goal gave CCSU a 1-0 lead at the 54:05 mark.

The Knights were able to get off just one shot in the final 25 minutes of the game, but Paula Ruess sent the attempt wide left. Central's stellar defensive effort led the team to its second victory of the season.
