Five Blue Devils Score in 6-1 Win over Wagner

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team beat Wagner 6-1 on Sunday afternoon in Staten Island, NY. Senior Danielle Pearse scored two goals and sophomore Carla Jackson, junior Emily Hogan, along with seniors Lexi Kochin and Charlotte Maurer, each tailed one goal a piece.
CCSU is now 9-1-2 and 3-0-0 in the NEC, while Wagner falls to 1-10-0 and 0-3-0 in conference play.
The Blue Devils opened scoring at the 17:09 minute mark when Jackson blasted the ball from 20 yards off a pass from freshman Roma McLaughlin.
Ten minutes later, Jackson slid inside the box and the ball found Maurer who kicked the ball past the goalie to the far right of the net making the score 2-0.
Le'La Allen scored the only goal of the game for Wagner off a rebound shot by Christina Bacon.
Kochin scored her first goal of the season and put the Blue Devils up 3-1 when she outran a Seahawk defender to fire the ball to the bottom left corner of the net.
In the second half, Pearse scored two goals within two minutes of each other to extend the lead 5-1. McLaughlin found Pearse inside the box for a goal at the 54:09 mark. Pearse scored again on a give and go play with Maurer at the 56:27 minute mark.
With less than five minutes remaing in the game, Hogan scored her first goal of the season on a blast from inside the box extending the lead 6-1.
Central finished the game with a 15-3 edge in shots on goal. Senior Ashley Cavanaugh had one save in the goal for the Blue Devils and freshman Kristen Roessler made her first career save in her college debut. Katie Viscardi had nine saves for the Seahawks.
CCSU returns to action Friday, Oct. 5, when it hosts Sacred Heart at 6 p.m. in New Britain, CT.
