Women's Soccer Wins Season Opener Against Massachusetts
Danielle Pearse's goal is the difference in women's soccer opening night win.
Senior Danielle Pearse scored her first goal of the season to propel the Central Connecticut women's soccer team to its first victory of the season over the UMass Minutewomen on Sunday night in New Britain, CT. Freshman Roma McLoughlin earned her first assist of the season on a touch pass to Pearse who was standing inside the box for the only goal of the game.
Central is now 1-0 on the season, while UMass slips to 1-1 overall.
CCSU was the aggressor on the night, taking 11 shots in the game to the Minutewomen's eight shots. Senior goalkeeper Ashley Cavanaugh recorded her first shutout of the season with four saves to earn the win.
Trailing 1-0 out of halftime, the Minutewomen struggled to get good looks at the goal. Peyton Ryan, the goalkeeper for Massachusetts, had three saves on the game.
Several Central players finished the night with two shots apiece and sophomore Jenna Rae Covello with one shot.
