Women's Soccer Keeper Caity Casey Named WPSL Co-Player of the Week

Central Connecticut rising senior goalkeeper Caity Casey was named the Women's Premier Soccer League's co-Player of the Week this week. Casey, playing for SoccerPlusCT, posted 11 saves against the New England Mutiny and posted an assist on the only goal, as her team topped the defending East Conference Champions, 1-0. The WPSL is a 50-plus team national women's soccer league with five conferences and is considered one of the top amateur women's soccer leagues in the world.

Pair of Women's Soccer Players Earn Soccer Buzz Regional Honors

Junior forward Rachel Caneen and sophomore midfielder Clio Tregear continued to garner post-season honors for the women's soccer team last week. The pair were named to the Soccer Buzz All-Northeast Region Third Team following an outstanding season in New Britain. The Blue Devils finished the season 12-7-4 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in seven seasons after winning the 2008 Northeast Conference Championship.

Herd Named NEC Scholar-Athlete, Blue Devils Place 46 on Fall Academic Honor Roll

Central Connecticut senior goalkeeper Erin Herd earned Northeast Conference Scholar-Athlete accolades in women's soccer, as announced by the league this morning. She was also one of 46 Blue Devils on the Fall Academic Honor Roll. Herd anchored a defense that allowed just six goals in nine league games before posting back-to-back clean sheets in postseason wins over Monmouth and Long Island. The shutouts led the Blue Devils back to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in seven seasons. A Biomolecular Sciences major, Herd posts a 3.41 grade point average.

Karise Hilt Adds All-New England Honor to Post Season Accolades

Junior Karise Hilt was named Second Team All-New England by the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association, it was announced this week. Hilt and the Blue Devils captured their fifth Northeast Conference Championship in seven seasons this fall. She also earned NSCAA All-Region honors and was named All-Conference following the season.

Hilt and Tregear Earn All-Region Honors from NSCAA/adidas

Central Connecticut had a pair of players earn NSCAA/adidas All-Northeast region honors following a 12-7-4 season which culminated in the team's fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in seven seasons. Junior Karise Hilt and sophomore Clio Tregear were both recognized by NSCAA/adidas. Hilt earned second team honors, while Tregear selected to the third team.

Three Blue Devil Women's Soccer Players Selected to Participate in NEWISA Senior Bowl

All three Central Connecticut women's soccer seniors were selected to participate in the 2008 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association Senior Bowl. Hannah Bromley and Jill Kusek were both named to the NCAA Division I team, while goalkeeper Erin Herd was chosen an alternate. This year, the trio helped lead Central Connecticut, which finished the year at 12-7-4, to its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in seven seasons.

All Welcome for Wednesday's Women's Soccer Reception

Central Connecticut invites all fans, supporters, faculty, staff and friend to join the Blue Devil family in honoring the 2008 CCSU Women's Soccer team on Wednesday, Dec. 3, between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the Kaiser Hall Lobby. The Blue Devils won their seventh Northeast Conference title, and fifth in the last seven seasons, before facing Boston College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Refreshments will be provided.

CCSU Women's Soccer Season Comes to an End in NCAA Tournament

Central Connecticut lost, 3-0, at #10 Boston College in NCAA Tournament first round play. The Eagles, seeded third in their portion of the 64-team, scored on a penalty kick with 1:46 remaining in the first half and added a second goal 2:03 into the second half. Senior Caitlin Hiler and sophomore Brooke Knowlton each factored in two goals for the Eagles. CCSU, playing in its fifth NCAA Tournament in seven seasons, finishes the year at 12-7-4. The Eagles improve to 14-5-2 and will face either Harvard or Northeastern in second round action.

Women's Soccer Draws #10 Boston College in 2008 NCAA Tournament on Friday at 4 p.m.

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team will face 10th-ranked Boston College in the first round of the 2008 NCAA women's soccer tournament on Friday at 4 p.m. The pairings were announced live on Monday night on ESPNews. Harvard and Northeastern will meet in the other game at BC at 7 p.m.. The winners of the two games will meet at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Blue Devils, the 2008 Northeast Conference Champions, are playing in the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in the last seven seasons.

CCSU Women's Soccer Wins Seventh Northeast Conference Championship, Defeats Long Island 1-0

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team won its seventh Northeast Conference Championship on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over top-seeded Long Island at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, NY. Junior Leah Blayney scored the game's lone goal. Sophomore Abby Graham assisted on the play. The Blue Devils have now won five of the last seven NEC titles dating back to the 2002 season. With the win, CCSU advances to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005. The victory also marked the 100th career victory for head coach Mick D'Arcy. Central Connecticut is now 12-6-4 overall this season.

Six Blue Devils Named All-NEC at Women's Soccer Banquet on Thursday Night

Central Connecticut placed six players on the 2008 Northeast Conference All-Conference squads, it was announced on Thursday night in Brooklyn. The Blue Devils placed four players on the the first team and two on the second following a 7-2 NEC season and a #2 seed in the NEC Tournament, which begins on Friday. CCSU will face #3 Monmouth on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, NY.

Women's Soccer Advances to Northeast Conference Championship Game on Sunday

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team advanced to its fifth Northeast Conference Championship game in seven seasons with a 2-0 shutout win over Monmouth in the semifinals on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils, now 11-6-4 on the season, posted their 11th shutout of the season, setting a new school record for shutouts in a season. They advance to Sunday's championship game at 12 noon versus top-seeded Long Island. Junior Rachel Caneen scored both goals for CCSU in the win.

Blue Devils Match Program Record With 10th Shutout; Earn #2 Seed in NEC Tournament

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team matched its program record with its 10th shutout of the season on Sunday. The Blue Devils topped Quinnipiac 1-0 on the road on Sunday to move to 10-6-4 overall and finish the Northeast Conference regular season with a 7-2 mark. CCSU will play in this week's NEC Tournament beginning on Friday, November 7. CCSU and Monmouth, who both finished 7-2 in league play, will meet on Friday. CCSU is the #2 seed while Monmouth is the #3 seed. The games will be played at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, NY. Erin Herd Named to ESPN Academic All-District Third Team

Senior goalkeeper Erin Herd was named to the ESPN Academic All-District Third Team on Thursday morning. Herd, who posts a 5-2-4 record in net this season, is a biomedical engineering major for the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils, 9-6-4 overall and 6-2 in league play, have one regular season game remaining on Sunday at Quinnipiac before heading to the Northeast Conference Tournament next week.

Rachel Caneen Scores Twice; Blue Devils Fall 3-2 in Double Overtime at Yale

Junior Rachel Caneen scored twice but it wasn't enough as the Central Connecticut women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 double overtime decision at Yale on Wednesday night in New Haven. Caneen's goal in the 85th minute tied the game 2-2 but a penalty kick goal in the second overtime gave the Bulldogs the win. With the loss the Blue Devils are now 9-6-4 on the season. CCSU returns to action on Sunday at Quinnipiac at 1 p.m. in its regular season finale.

Karise Hilt Named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week

Junior defender Karise Hilt was named the Brine/Northeast Conference women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Hilt and the Blue Devils went 2-0 last week to finish their regular season home schedule at a perfect 5-0. The Blue Devils also qualified for their seventh consecutive NEC Tournament, which will be played on Nov. 7 and 9 at the home of the highest seed.
