Northeast Conference Announces Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches' Poll
The Blue Devils open the season on February 16 at Holy Cross.
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team was picked eighth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll it was announced on Thursday. The Blue Devils are slated to open the season on February 16 at Holy Cross.
The Blue Devils are under the direction of first year head coach Betsy Vendel. Vendel is the all-time leading scorer in CCSU history and was most recently at Southern Connecticut State University where she was the interim head coach.
The defending NEC champion Bryant earned four first-place votes and was picked to finish first, followed by Wagner who also received four votes. Mount St. Mary's was third followed by Robert Morris, Saint Francis U, Sacred Heart. LIU Brooklyn and Central rounded out the poll.
The Blue Devils went 1-6 in conference play last season with a 12-8 win over LIU Brooklyn.
Junior Morgan Sinton (41 points; 28 G, 13 A) is the top returning scorer for Central and senior goalkeeper, Jackie Branthover, a Second Team All-NEC pick as a freshman, returns in the goal for CCSU. Branthover had a save percentage of 42.5 percent last season.
The Blue Devils' regular season begins on February 16 at Holy Cross. Central opens Northeast Conference play on April 5 hosting LIU Brooklyn.
