Red Flash Top CCSU Women's Lacrosse 15-13 in New Britain on Friday
Coogan and Sinton each score twice in home loss
Sophomores Molly Coogan and Morgan Sinton each scored four goals but the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team came up short in a 15-13 home loss to Saint Francis University on Friday afternoon in New Britain. The Blue Devils fall to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in Northeast Conference play with the loss. The Red Flash improve to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in league action with the victory.
The Red Flash climbed out to a quick 4-0 lead with 24:57 on the clock in the first half. The Blue Devils answered with four straight goals, by four different players, to tie the game 4-4 with 20:47 on the clock. Junior Carson Adelberger, sophomore Alaigra Usher, Sinton and Coogan all scored during the quick run for the home team.
The Red Flash scored to take a 5-4 lead, but three straight goals from CCSU, including two from Coogan and one from Sinton, gave the home team a 7-5 edge. The Red Flash answered again, scoring four straight goals before halftime to lead 9-7 at the break.
The teams went back and forth in the second half, with neither team leading by more than three goals, as Saint Francis took a 12-9 lead with 14:25 to play.
Central answered again, scoring three straight on goals from senior Marissa Cotroneo, Usher and Sinton, to tie the game 12-12 with just over five minutes to play in the game.
Saint Francis then scored three straight to put the game away, including one with under 30 seconds to play, to come away with the 15-13 victory.
Sinton and Coogan each led the offense for CCSU with four goals and an assist. Usher added two goals and an assist for the Blue Devils. Saint Francis was led by Morgan day who had seven goals and an assist in the victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Meaghan Allard made nine saves in goal for the Blue Devils in the loss.
Central will finish out the home portion of its schedule on Sunday hosting Robert Morris at 12 p.m. on Senior Day.
