Women's Lacrosse Tops LIU Brooklyn, 12-8, to Pick Up First NEC Win
Sullivan, Sinton and Usher each score three times in road victory
Senior Kylie Sullivan and sophomores Morgan Sinton and Alaigra Usher each scored three times as the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team picked up a 12-8 Northeast Conference road victory at LIU Brooklyn on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils move to 2-9 overall and 1-1 in league play with the victory. They'll return to action at home vs. Sacred Heart on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Junior Jackie Branthover made a season-high 15 saves in goal for the Blue Devils in the victory.
The Blue Devils took an 8-2 lead at the half behind three goals from both Sinton and Sullivan before the break. Sinton scored the first two of the game and then Usher scored with 23 minutes on the clock to give the Blue Devils a 3-0 lead. After an LIU goal Sullivan scored two straight to push the lead to 5-1. Sullivan, Sinton and sophomore Molly Coogan each scored before halftime to give Central the lead.
The Blackbirds responded to open the second half by scoring four straight goals to cut the lead to 8-6. Sullivan's fourth goal with 24:04 left made it 9-6, but LIU scored two straight to cut the lead to 9-8 with 18:13 left to play.
The Blue Devils answered, and held the Blackbirds scoreless for the rest of the game while posting a pair of goals from Usher and one from sophomore Carson Adelberger to claim the 12-8 victory.
Sinton added a pair of assists to her two goals and freshman Emma Sullivan added a goal for the Blue Devils in the win.
Central returns to action again on Sunday at 1 p.m. hosting Sacred Heart.
