Women's Lacrosse Stymied by Hofstra Friday Night
The Blue Devils play UMass Lowell March 28.
Central Connecticut was stymied by Hofstra, 15-3, in women's lacrosse action on Friday night at Arute Field. The Pride built an eight-goal lead by halftime and led throughout the game to win the non-conference tilt. Junior Carson Adelberger tallied two goals for the Blue Devils.
Central slips to 1-7 overall following the loss, while Hofstra moves to 5-4.
CCSU will be back in action on Wednesday, March 28, to close out its non-conference slate when it hosts UMass Lowell.
Hofstra opened the game with four unanswered goals. Alexa Mattera scored twice off of assists from Alyssa Parrella in the stretch.
Central got onto the scoreboard at the 15:54 mark when sophomore Morgan Sinton scored on an unassisted effort.
The Pride would score three more goals before Adelberger got her first goal of the night with 9:51 to go in the period.
Hofstra closed the opening half with three straight goals, the final two coming from Katie Whelan. Her unassisted goal with :02 lef in the period made it 10-2 at the intermission.
After the Pride scored to open the second period, Adelberger would convert a pass from sophomore Cameron Ruberti for her second goal of the night with 23:09 remaining.
Hofstra would score the final four goals of the game to close out the contest for the final score.
Junior Jackie Branthover started in goal for CCSU and made 12 saves on the night.
Whelan and Mattera led Hofstra with four goals each. Maddie Fields started in goal for the Pride and made a pair of stops.
The Blue Devils play host to UMass Lowell on March 28.
