Women's Basketball Defeats LIU to Secure Second Conference Victory of the Season

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team defeated the LIU Sharks, 60-43, and brought home their second conference victory of the season on Thursday night. The Blue Devils were led by freshman Lara Rohkohl, who achieved a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

  • The Blue Devils were first to get on the board with a driving layup from Dejah Jenkins. The Sharks retaliated with a layup of their own from Antoaneta Alexe and the teams continued to trade buckets for the first five minutes of Q1. 

  • Meghan Kenefick sunk a three with the assist from Forever Toppin with 4:44 to play in the first. This is when CCSU hit their stride, building a six-point lead (17-11) before the buzzer with a layup from Tatiana Brown and a three from Belle Lanpher. 

  • LIU kicked off the second quarter with Ashley Austin sinking a shot from behind the arc. 

  • It was at this point when Central took total control of the game, going on a 12-0 run to expand their lead to 15. They held the Sharks to one of six from the floor (16.7%) for the entirety of Q2. 

  • Toppin hit a buzzer-beater from half-court to end the half.  

  • The Sharks attempted to build momentum in the third, opening the quarter with a driving layup from Shyan Mwai. 

  • The Blue Devils continued to knock down shots, going on a 15-6 run to build their largest lead of the game at 22 points (44-22). 

  • LIU was able to sink a layup and a three before the end of the quarter, leaving the score at 46-27.  

  • The Sharks went on a short 4-0 run at the start of Q4, working to close the gap.  

  • The Blue Devils were able to build their lead back up to 20, before LIU went on an 11-2 run, trimming CCSU's lead to 11. 

  • This was as close as the Sharks would get before the final buzzer. CCSU would score six more points, ending the game at 60-43. 


2- This was freshman Lara Rohkohl's second double-double of the season. 


  • Rohkohl achieved a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, seven offensive. 

  • Two other Blue Devils scored in double figures including Jenkins with 12 points and Toppin with 11. 

  • Kenefick led Central on the boards with 12 rebounds. 

  • CCSU had 20 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second-chance points. 

  • This was the first time that Central had defeated LIU since the 2019-20 season when they secured a 71-57 victory.

The Blue Devils will return home on Saturday to host the Wagner College Seahawks. Tipoff is set for 12:30 pm at Detrick Gymnasium. Saturday's game will air on ESPN3 and will be available on a tape delay at 5pm on SNY, in the New York City and tristate markets.
