Women's Basketball Drops Contest at FDU

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, 59-53 on Saturday afternoon. Lara Rohkohl led the Blue Devils, scoring 20 points and tallying seven rebounds. 

GAME INFORMATION  

FINAL SCORE: FDU 59, CCSU 53 

RECORDS: CCSU (4-11, 1-3 NEC), FDU (11-4, 3-0 NEC)  

LOCATION: Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center | Hackensack, NJ  

KEY MOMENTS  

  • The Blue Devils opened the scoring with a layup from Lara Rohkohl. The Knights retaliated with a bucket of their own from Chloe Wilson.  

  • CCSU and FDU went on to trade baskets for the majority of the first quarter. 

  • FDU went on a 4-0 run to end Q1, giving them the 14-10 lead. 

  • Rohkohl attempted to build momentum for the Blue Devils by scoring the first three points of the second quarter, sinking a layup and a free throw, to make it a one-point game. 

  • The Knights fought back, going on a 13-4 run to stretch their lead to ten. 

  • Another Rohkohl layup halted Fairleigh Dickinson and the Blue Devils began to chip away at their lead. 

  • Rohkohl sunk three free throws before the half, closing in on the Knights, and leaving the score at 29-23. 

  • CCSU hit their stride in the third, kicking things off with a three and a layup from Belle Lanpher. 

  • FDU attempted to hold the Blue Devils off with back-to-back layups, but Central evened things up with buckets from Rohkohl and Lanpher (33-33). 

  • The teams traded layups before a Meghan Kenefick three gave CCSU the 38-35 lead. 

  • Celia Carbonell then sunk a three for the Knights to even the score. 

  • FDU ended the third with two more buckets to build a four point lead (42-38). 

  • The Knights pulled away at the start of Q4, going on an 8-0 run, which was halted by two Lanpher free throws. 

  • Both teams were scoreless for the next 2:19 until Sierra DeAngelo hit a shot from behind the arc for the Knights. 

  • Amaya Williams sunk two baskets from the foul line before DeAngelo hit another three, giving FDU a ten-point lead, 56-46. 

  • Central went on a short 4-0 run, including two free throws from Forever Toppin and a Rohkohl layup, to cut the Knight's lead to six. 

  • A Lanpher three, as well as three FDU free throws would end the game at 59-53. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW  

20- Lara Rohkohl led the Blue Devils with a career high of 20 points.  

NOTES  

  • Rohkohl led CCSU, scoring 20 points and tallying seven rebounds. 

  • Two other Blue devils scored in double figures including Lanpher with 16 points, and Toppin with 10 points. 

  • With today's win, FDU improved their all-time record against the Blue Devils to 14-17.
