Napoli Records Career-High Rebound Total In Monday Night Outing

The Central Connecticut women's basketball mounted a fourth quarter rally, but could not overcome the deficit, falling to Brown University 69-46 Monday night at Detrick Gymnasium. The Blue Devils were led by 12 points from Meghan Kenefick and a career-high nine rebounds from Alli Napoli.

  • Brown jumped out to an 8-3 lead at the 6:39 mark and maintained that advantage, 10-5, with 5:24 to play in the first quarter
  • A free throw from Alli Napoli, and four points from Meghan Kenefick, the second at the 2:48 mark of the quarter, brought the Blue Devils even, 14-14
  • Brown answered with five points in 56 seconds and finished the half with a 7-4 run to take a 21-18 lead after the first period
  • Brown, after missing its first two shots of the second quarter, hit 3-4 in a 60 second stretch to push its advantage to 27-18 and force a Blue Devil timeout
  • Amaya Williams drained a three-pointer, from a rebound and quick outlet from Ally Sentence 4:02 into the second quarter to give CCSU its first points of the period and pull them within six, 27-21
  • The Bears scored 12 of the final 16 points of the quarter to take a 39-25 lead at halftime
  • Brown again started fast in the third, scoring the first five points, to push its lead to 44-27
  • Dejah Jenkins and Emma Bruen made baskets on back-to-back possessions, 25 seconds apart, for a mini 4-0 CCSU run
  • Belle Lanpher and Williams cut the deficit to 13, 48-35, before Gianna Aiello ended the third with a basket to give Brown the 50-35 edge entering the final stanza
  • A Lanpher pull-up jumper with 6:26 to play brought the Blue Devils within 11, 53-42 and capped a 7-3 quarter opening spurt for Central
  • The Bears answered with five straight, capped by a three Charlotte Jewell
  • A second chance basket from Williams with 4:30 to play momentarily quelled the run that reached 8-2 before a pair of Jenkins free throws with 2:08 to play

  • Napoli had a career-high nine rebounds for the Blue Devils
  • Brown shot 50 percent, 17-34, from the field in the first-half
  • CCSU held Brown to 3-11 shooting in the third quarter, while committing just two turnovers in the period
  • The Blue Devils outrebounded Brown, 40-36, with a 14-5 edge on the offensive glass
  • CCSU had just two second-half turnovers, while corcing eight from Brown
  • Williams finished with seven points
  • Lanpher made her season debut, playing 21 minutes with four points, an assist and a steal


The Blue Devils will continue a season-long four game homestand on Wednesday when they host the University of New Hampshire at Detrick Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 7:00pm.
