Forever Toppin Named 2020-21 Most Improved Player
The junior guard was selected as the Northeast Conference Most Improved Player on Monday.
Central Connecticut's Forever Toppin was named the 2020-21 Northeast Conference Most Improved Player on Monday. The junior guard led the Blue Devils in scoring at 12.1 ppg, which was good for 12th in the NEC.
Toppin earned her way into the starting lineup for each game of the season, an improvement from seven games last year. She nearly tripled her scoring average from 4.6 ppg to 12.1. Topping was also much more efficient from the floor, shooting 36.3%, which is up from 27.9% in the 2019-20 campaign.
When the Blue Devils caught the injury bug, Toppin stepped up by scoring in double figures 10 out of the final 15 games. She scored a career high 26 points on March 1 on the road against Wagner. In the four wins for Central this year, Toppin averaged 13.0 points and collected 6 steals.
"It is a wonderful accomplishment for her to be recognized by the NEC coaches," said head coach Kerri Reaves. "She has committed herself to the game and to her team over the past year, making great strides. I am elated for Forever and proud to be her coach."
Toppin returns as a senior next year for the Blue Devils.
