Blue Devils Drop Home Game to Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart completed the season sweep over CCSU on Saturday afternoon.
Central Connecticut women's basketball was swept by Sacred Heart for the second straight season in a 70-56 loss on Saturday. The Blue Devils trailed by just 4 entering the final quarter, but could not keep up offensively with the Pioneers. Central loses its fourth straight game and falls to 2-6 in NEC play. With the win, Sacred Heart climbs to .500 overall and 5-3 in the NEC.
Forever Toppin broke her season high with 17 points on 6-11 shooting. Dejah Jenkins made her first start of the season, scoring 9 points and 3 rebounds on the afternoon.
The Blue Devils were without three key seniors in Ashley Berube, Emma McCamus, and Tiffany Slicklein. Due to the key losses, the Blue Devils struggled on the offensive end, shooting 18-57 from the floor. The team also went just 5-25 from beyond the arc.
Adrianne Hagood continued her stellar season for the Pioneers, scoring 17 points including a game high 3 three pointers. Jayla Davis added 10 points and 5 rebounds and Kelsey Wood had a double-double off of the bench.
The Blue Devils have yet to win a game in 2021 and have lost by double figures for the fourth time in a row.

Sacred Heart started the game on a 12-2 run, while the Blue Devils shot just 1-9 from the floor. Forever Toppin hit a big three pointer at the 1:59 mark in the first quarter, but picked up her third foul on the next possession.

Freshman Belle Lanpher shined in the second quarter, knocking down an open three on a nice dish from Ashley Forker with 6:00 remaining. Lanpher scored a team high 7 points in the first half.

Central held the Pioneers to just 1-8 from three point land in the first half, but allowed 15 offensive rebounds that led to 12 second chance points. The Pioneers led 32-25 at the half.

Despite the 3 fouls, Forever Toppin started the second half and scored the first 6 points for CCSU.

After Central cut the game to 3, Sacred Heart responded with a 6-0 run to take a 40-31 lead at the 7:17 mark in the third quarter.

Dejah Jenkins showed her prowess on both ends of the floor, knocking down a three pointer and forcing a steal that led to a Forever Toppin layup with 2:49 left in the third. The Blue Devils trailed by just 6.

The Pioneers got 2 three pointers from Adrianne Hagood and Sonia Smith to open up the lead to 56-47.

The Blue Devils scored just 7 points in the final 5:29 of the ballgame and were outscored 20-10 in the fourth quarter.
