Softball Defeats the Seahawks in Conference Opening Doubleheader

LOCATION: New Britain, CT / CCSU Softball Field 

RECORDS: CCSU (8-6, 2-0 NEC), Wagner (2-12, 0-2 NEC)  

KEY MOMENTS  

GAME ONE 

• Both teams remained scoreless for the first seven innings. CCSU pitcher Kaylee Whittaker allowed only five hits and one walk through the top of the eighth. 

• Central was able to end the game in the bottom of the eighth. Ashlyn Desaulniers bunted to get on first before Meg Gorman grounded out to the pitcher to advance her to second. Paige Stringer was able to seal the deal, hitting a double to left field to drive Desaulniers in for the 1-0 win. 

GAME TWO 

• CCSU scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take the early lead. The Blue Devils built momentum when Skylar Warn flied out to right field with the bases loaded to score Grace Lawton. In the next at bat, Desaulniers singled to drive in Jasmine Lasane. To score their third run of the inning, Gorman doubled to center field to score Brooke Fedison.  

• The Seahawks fought back in the top of the fourth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Penelope Russ singled to left field to drive in Bianca Worthy, making the score 3-1. Central ended the inning and got out of trouble by throwing Russ out at second after Makenzie Miller hit a ground ball to short. 

• The Blue Devils were able to end the game in the top of the seventh, securing their second victory of the day. 

 NOTES   

• The Blue Devils are now 5-0 at home and 2-0 in conference play. 

• CCSU had six hits in game one and five in game two. 

• Whittaker earned two wins in the pitching circle, giving up a total of one run between both games. She also totaled nine strikeouts.
