Softball Drops Pair of Saturday Games
Central Connecticut State University softball lost both games of its Saturday doubleheader to Bowling Green and North Carolina State, respectively. The Blue Devils rematch both teams tomorrow to close out the weekend.
GAME 1 INFORMATION

KEY MOMENTS
- Kari Marks made quick work of the Bowling Green lineup in the first inning, sending the three batters she faced right back to the dugout.
- It was a three up, three down second inning for the Blue Devils, as Falcons got on the board with a sac-fly.
- Marks was able to strike out two in the bottom of the third, but Bowling Green tacked on two more runs still.
- CCSU had the bases loaded for themselves in the top of the fourth after a couple of walks and a single from Molly Bruyns. A Falcons fielding error brought in the Blue Devils first run of the afternoon, but two straight strikeouts ended things there.
- Meg Gorman got the fifth inning started with a leadoff double to right center. Paige Stringer sent a single to the outfield to get CCSU's second run of the day. The Blue Devils had runners on second and third after a bad throw from the Bowling Green defense, but the Falcons were able to get out of the jam there.
- The Blue Devils were able to get Alex Rodgers into scoring position in the top of the sixth but a pop-up sent them to bottom of the sixth.
- The Falcons started out the sixth inning with a single followed up by a deep shot that put them up 7-2. The Blue Devils sent out Kaylee Whittaker to pitch, but Bowling Green was able to get two more homers before the inning was over to go up 10-2.

- Meg Gorman led CCSU with two hits on the afternoon.
- The Falcons hit four home runs in the win.

KEY MOMENTS
- After a three up, three down first inning from the Blue Devils, N.C. State was quick to attack from the batter's box. Ashley Antonazzo was able to get through the first two batters with ease, but the Wolfpack was able to string together back-to-back homers that gave them an early 3-0 lead.
- Two more strikeouts from the Blue Devils made quick work of the second for the Wolfpack, who homered again to put two more on the board and had the bases loaded shortly after that. Antonazzo was able to get out of the bases loaded jam allowing only one run, but the Wolfpack headed into the third inning with a tall 6-0 advantage.
- N.C. State sent one deep again in the bottom of the third.
- The Wolfpack changed up most of their defense between the third and fourth innings, including their pitcher, who walked the first two Blue Devils she faced in the top of the fourth. Meg Dugas hit a sac-fly that sent Stringer home and put CCSU on the board.
- After shutting down the Wolfpack lineup in the fourth, the Blue Devils kept the momentum rolling into the fifth. Jazmin Lasane homered to left field to give CCSU three runs, but the Blue Devils run was halted at that.
- The Wolfpack started mashing in the bottom of the fifth inning. Three singles, a double and a three-RBI home run nearly doubled N.C. State's score in a half inning, and ended the game for the Blue Devils.
NOTES
- Five home runs is the most the Blue Devils have given up this season.
