Softball Drops Opening Day Doubleheader
Central Connecticut State University dropped its opening day matchup on Friday to Hampton State, dropping both games of the doubleheader.

KEY MOMENTS, GAME ONE
- Hampton was first to get on the board in game one. With the bases loaded, the Pirates smacked a double that brought in three runs for Hampton.
- Sophomore Brooke Fedison scored the first run for CCSU of the 2022 season with a solo home run in the top of the third inning.
- The Pirates were able to take advantage of a passed ball late in the inning and snuck in an unearned run to go up 4-1.
- To start off the fourth inning, the Blue Devils hit four singles in a row, with sophomore Alex Rodgers' single good enough to drive in two Blue Devils, cutting Hampton's lead to 4-3.
- The Blue Devils got themselves into a pinch in the bottom of the fifth inning, loading up the bases with no outs. The Pirates were able to capitalize with three runs on the board.
- Freshman Jazmin Lasane, who finished the day with a team-high three hits, started out the sixth inning with a double. Rodgers recorded her third RBI of the day with a single that sent Lasane in.
KEY MOMENTS, GAME TWO
- The Blue Devils struck early in game two of the doubleheader. Reigning NEC Rookie of the Year Paige Stringer got things started with a double that senior Bri Walker cleaned up with a single that brought Stringer home.
- CCSU had a shaky start to the second inning, with two errors and a walk responsible for loaded bases. The Pirates cleared them and then some, tacking on five runs in the second.
- Walker brought home junior Molly Bruyns after the junior walked to start the third, but the Pirates doubled that with two runs in the bottom of the third. They scored twice more in the fifth as well to go up 9-2.
- Junior outfielder Kim Howard followed up Meg Dugas' double with a two run homer in the sixth inning.
- Walker grabbed her third RBI of the game in the seventh inning with a double that brought home Bruyns.
