Blue Devils Take Pair of Games versus Mount St. Mary's
Freshman Paige Stringer hit two home runs, helping Central win both games on Saturday.
The CCSU softball team took both games against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. Freshman Paige Stringer hit a homerun in both games, including a grand slam in the sixth inning in game one.
GAME ONE
Score: Central Connecticut 7, Mount St. Mary's 4

The Blue Devils quickly went down 3-0 in the first inning. Kassidy Johnson hit a three-run double for Mount St. Mary's.

Central was able to get two runs back in the bottom half of the first, after Rian Eigenmann scored on a wild pitch and Meg Dugas hit a RBI single scoring Meg Gorman.

Junior Kari Marks found her groove, throwing four scoreless innings in a row. She struck out five batters during the stretch. However, the Blue Devils could not find its offense and trailed 3-2 heading into the sixth inning.

The Mount took a 4-2 lead after leading off the inning with a solo home run from Kaia Bonshock.

The Blue Devils were able to walk the bases loaded to start the bottom of the sixth. Kim Howard knocked home Meg Gorman with a RBI single to cut the lead to one. Freshman Paige Stringer stepped up to the plate and hit a line-drive grand slam to right center, giving CCSU a 7-4 lead. It was the first career home run for Stringer.

Kari Marks closed out the game with a 1-2-3 inning. She pitched all 7 innings and gave up 4 runs on 5 hits, as Central picked up its first win of the season.

Both teams started off slowly, with no runs being scored in the first four innings of play. The only hit for the Blue Devils during the stretch came from catcher Rian Eigenmann in the first inning.

Paige Stringer broke the scoring drought with a leadoff home run, off the right field foul pole. It was the second home run Stringer hit in the double header.

Carli Backlund followed her teammate with a double to right center. Rian Eigenmann singled to center, scoring Backlund. After a throwing error by the Mount St. Mary's catcher, Eigenmann was able to come around and score, giving CCSU a 3-0 lead.

The Mount picked up a run in the top of the sixth, but freshman Kate Houghton retired the rest of the Mount batters. Houghton tossed 7 innings of one run ball, picking up her first collegiate win.
