Blue Devils Drop a Pair of One-Run Games at Mount St. Mary's
CCSU will play at Wagner on Sunday
The Central Connecticut softball team dropped a pair of one-run games on the road at Mount St. Mary's. The Blue Devils lost game one 4-3, and then game two 2-1. With the losses the Blue Devils are now 15-20 overall and 2-8 in Northeast Conference play. They will travel to Wagner for a pair of games on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
On Saturday the Mount used a three-run second inning and a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to come away with the victory. Freshman Kari Marks pitched six innings for the Blue Devils allowing six hits and the four earned runs while striking out four in the loss. She is now 2-5 on the season.
The Blue Devils struck first with a run in the first inning on an RBI single from Kristen Ulmer. The Mount answered with three runs in the second to take a 3-1 lead.
Central answered and tied the game with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fourth inning. The first scored on a fielding error on a ball to center field off the bat of freshman Rian Eigenmann. The second on an RBI single from freshman Carli Backlund. The game remained tied until the solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In game two the Mount struck first with a single run in the bottom of the third inning. The Blue Devils tied the game 1-1 in the fifth on a solo home run from junior Alicia Bertolino. The Mount broke the tie and plated the eventual winning run in the bottom of the inning when Mariah Godde's fielder's choice scored Kaylee Stoner.
Sophomore Ashley Antonazzo moved to 6-8 on the season pitching 5.1 innings allowing eight hits and two earned runs. She struck out three Mount batters.
The Blue Devils are back in action tomorrow at Wagner.
