Softball Splits a Pair of Games with Sacred Heart
Central plays at Massachusetts on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
The Central Connecticut softball team split a pair of games with in-state conference rival Sacred Heart Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils are now 13-15 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Sacred Heart improves to 18-22 on the season, 4-4 in league. CCSU plays Massachusetts on Wednesday, April 10 at 4 p.m.
Sophomore Sydney Bolan led Central in game one with one hit and four RBIs. The Pioneers led 5-0 by the end of the fourth inning, but CCSU scored five runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game. Bolan stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a double to left center for a RBI triple allowing freshman Carli Backlund, freshman Rian Egienmann, and junior Alicia Bertolino to score.
With the bases loaded again, junior Emily Cronin singled to left field for a RBI double sending freshmen Alexa Milius and Carley Stoker home.
In the top of the sixth, Backlund had runners on second and third, and a single to third base allowed junior Sarah Ogilive to score. Bolan came up next and hit a sacrificed fly ball to centerfield allowing Berolinio to score her second run of the day putting Central up 7-5.
The Pioneers had two hits and one run in the bottom of the inning, and both teams went scoreless in the seventh for Central win 7-6.
Stoker pitched all seven innings allowing 10 hits and six runs. She threw six strikeouts and had five errors on the game. She improves to 6-5 on the season.
Central fell 8-0 in six innings in game two. Sacred Heart held the Blue Devils to just three hits on 22 at bats.
