Blue Devils Win Four Straight After Sweep at Yale
Central opens Northeast Conference play this weekend against Robert Morris and Saint Francis U.
Central Connecticut softball has won four games straight after sweeping Yale in a double-header Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Devils improve to 11-10 on the season and Yale falls to 8-15 overall. Central opens conference play on Saturday with a double-header against Robert Morris and a pair of games against Saint Francis U on Sunday. All games will be played in New Britain at the CCSU Softball Field.
GAME ONE
Central scored all four runs in the first three innings holding the Bulldogs scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Alexa Milius scored an unearned run on a wild pitch in the first inning and recorded an RBI in the second inning allowing classmate Carley Stoker to cross home plate.
In the third inning, junior Sarah Ogilvie cracked the ball down the left field line for a double-RBI sending junior Giuliana Hathaway and Alyssa Contreras home.
After allowing no runs or hits, Yale had four hits and scored its two runs of game in the bottom of the fourth inning. With a runner on first and third, Carlin Hagmaier hit a single to center field putting the Bulldogs on the board 4-1. The next batter, Maya Seifert, singled to right field for a single-RBI.
Stoker pitched all seven innings for Central allowing just seven hits, two runs, and had two errors. She threw one strikeout and walked just three players on 26 at bats.
GAME TWO
Both teams went scoreless in the first two innings and the Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead after a single-RBI by freshman Carli Backlund allowing junior Emily Cronin to score.
Yale responded in the bottom of the fourth with a single-RBI to center field by Terra Jerpbak, tying the game 1-1.
After an RBI by freshman Rian Eigenmann, sophomore Sydney Bolan stepped to the plate with runners on first and third. Bolan cracked the ball out of the park for a three-run homer pushing the lead 5-1.
Central forced three quick outs allowing not hits and posting no errors in the bottom of the fifth before scoring two more runs in the sixth inning. Backlund hit a double to left center sending Eigenmann and junior Alicia Betolino across home plate.
Backlund finished the game with one run, one hit, and three RBIs. On the mound for the Blue Devils, sophomore Ashley Antonazzo allowed just four hits, one run, and had one error. She threw four strikeouts and didn't walk a single player on 26 at bats.
