Blue Devils Ready for USF-Clearwater Showcase Tournament
Central will play fives games from March 8-10 in Florida.
The Central Connecticut softball team will travel down to Clearwater, Florida to play for the University of South Florida's Showcase Tournament on March 8-10. The Blue Devils will take on Furman (3 p.m.) and Chattanooga (5:30 p.m.) on Friday, Eastern Illinois (noon) and Seton Hall (6 p.m.) on Saturday, and South Dakota State (11:30 a.m.) on Sunday.
CCSU heads to the tournament with a 3-1 record after having all three games from the Morgan State University tournament canceled due to weather. The team last played a double-header on February 25 beating Morehead State 5-4 and falling to Hampton University 5-4.
Sydney Bolan leads the Blue Devils at the plate, batting .538 through the first four games of the season. She currently has the most hits of the season at seven and tied for most RBIs at five with Sarah Ogilvie.
Scouting the Opponent
Furman
Furman enters this weekend with a 5-11 record winning three out of its last four games. This will be the first match up between Central and Furman.
Chattanooga
Chattanooga is has an overall record of 14-3. The teams met last year at the USF Tournament and the Blue Devils fell 7-5 to the Mocs.
Eastern Illinois
Eastern Illinois is currently 4-14 and opens the tournament against the Blue Devils. The game marks the first ever meeting between Central and Eastern Illinois.
Seton Hall
Central was supposed to play Seton Hall earlier this season, but the game was canceled due to weather. This matchup marks the fourth time the teams will meet with the Blue Devils holding a 3-0 advantage. The Pirates are 7-6 on the season.
South Dakota State
The Jackrabbits are 10-4 overall and enter the tournament on a five game winning streak. The two teams faced each other last year at the USF Tournament and the Jackrabbits prevailed 2-0.
