Softball Picked Fourth in NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll
Softball finished with a 10-6 conference record in the 2017-18 season.
The Central Connecticut softball team was predicted to finish fourth this season in the nine-team Northeast Conference Coaches' Poll as announced by the league's front office on Thursday, January, 31. Sacred Heart was chosen as the unanimous favorite to win the NEC Championship for the 2019 season.
LIU Brooklyn was second in the poll, followed by Saint Francis U. Following the Blue Devils was Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Mount St. Mary's. Wagner and Robert Morris rounded the coaches' poll.
Last season, Central Connecticut finished the year 19-30 overall and 10-6 in conference play. The Blue Devils went on a tear to end the regular season winning three of thier last five contest, making postseason play. Central lost to Sacred Heart and LIU Brooklyn in the 2018 Northeast Conference Tournament.
Head coach Breanna Gleason begins her sixth season at the help with a 115-110-1 (.508) overall record through five seasons as head coach. The Blue Devils' open the 2019 season on February 22-24 in Hampton, VA at the Pirate-Spartan Classic. In the tournament, CCSU will go head-to-head with St. Bonaventure, Norfolk State, and Hampton.
CCSU hosts Seton Hall for its home-opener at CCSU Softball Field in New Britain, CT on February 26 at 2 p.m. Central's Northeast Conference opener will feature a home doubleheader against Robert Morris on March 30.
