Softball Drops Two at Under Armour Showcase on Saturday
Senior Gianna Hathaway recorded her first homer of the season against UT Chattanooga.
The Central Connecticut softball team dropped two contests on Saturday, March 10 at the USF Under Armour Classic against South Dakota State (2-0) and UT Chattanooga (7-5, 8-innings). The Blue Devils fall to 4-11 on the season with one contest remaining in Clearwater, FL on Sunday against Lehigh at 11:15 a.m.
GAME ONE:
The Jackrabbits won a 2-0 decision against the Blue Devils on Sunday morning after tallying a run in the fifth and sixth innings.
Freshman Sydney Bolan, sophomore Sarah Ogilvie and sophomore Giuliana Hathaway all had one hit each to lead CCSU on Saturday morning.
Sophomore Alex Casañas was credited with her first loss of the season after pitching 4.0 innings and giving up three hits and one run.
South Dakota St. scored on a RBI-double in the bottom of the fifth inning and then on an RBI single down the right field line in the bottom of the sixth inning.
SDS pitched Madison Hope for all seven innings and she improved her record to 7-1 on the season.
GAME TWO:
Senior Brittany Camara led the Blue Devils with a pair of hits and two RBI's against UT Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon as CCSU fell 7-5 in extra innings. After Central Connecticut took a healthy 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, Chattanooga stormed back to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the sixth inning.
Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh inning, before UTC took a two-run edge in the top of the eighth inning to put the pressure on CCSU.
Central Connecticut surrendered three straight outs to seal the win for the Mocs.
Senior Gianna Hathaway connected on a three-run homerun to score sophomore Emily Cronin and senior Brittant Camara in the top of the third inning. Senior Emily Sargent went all eight innings in the circle for CCSU and moved her record to 1-4 on the season.
