CCSU, Hertzog Claim First Place in Mini Meet on Friday
Hertzog wins second straight race at Stanley Park
The Central Connecticut men's cross country team posted a first place finish in the CCSU Mini Meet held at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils will now prepare for the 2015 Northeast Conference Championships being held next weekend at Bryant University. The Blue Devils have won six straight NEC titles heading into the weekend.
Junior Ryan Hertzog led all finishers in the 5k race with a time of 15:06. It was his second win of the 2015 fall season, also posting a first place finish in the Ted Owen Invitational, also hosted by CCSU at Stanley Park on Sept. 26.
Hertzog led five CCSU finishers in the top-25 on the day, helping the Blue Devils score 52 points and finish 19 points in front of Providence for the first place finish.
Junior Joseph Gioielli finished second overall with a time of 15:12. Senior Matt Walker was ninth at 15:19 while freshman Alex Norstrom was 16th with a time of 15:30. Classmate Austin Trainor finished 24th with a time of 15:34.
The Blue Devils finished with 52 points, followed by Providence (17), Monmouth (78), Boston University (94) and then Yale (120).
Juniors Derek French (15:46) and Malcolm Connor (15:51) finished in 41st and 49th places respectively for CCSU in the win. There were 102 total scoring runners in the race.
