Men's Cross Country Finishes Sixth In Season Opener
The six-time defending Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut men's cross country team opened the 2015 season with a sixth place finish at the Stony Brook University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
The six-time defending Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut men's cross country team opened the 2015 season with a sixth place finish at the Stony Brook University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. The Blue Devils were led by freshman Alex Norstrom at the meet who finished 15th overall.
STONY BROOK XC INVITATIONAL RESULTS
Norstrom paced Central with a 15th place finish, completing the 6K run with a time of 19:17.84. Junior Derek French was the next Blue Devil to cross the finish line, coming in 30th place with a final time of 19:59.84.
Junior Malcolm Connor, sophomore Eric Davidson and freshman Kevin Rivera rounded out the field for the Blue Devils finishing 33rd, 34th and 35th respectively. Connor came in with a time of 20:08.68, followed by Davidson at 20:11.62 and Rivera with a mark of 20:13.38.
In total, CCSU tallied 147 points to pick up the sixth place finish. The host team, Stony Brook, earned the victory at the meet scoring 50 total points. Massachusetts was the runner up with a score of 54, followed by Sacred Heart with a total of 65 to round out the top-three teams. Quinnipiac was fourth with a total of 85, ahead of Hartford (118) and then CCSU.
The meet featured six teams and 57 student-athletes over the 6K course on the campus of Stony Brook University.
The men's cross country team will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Nassaney Invitational at the University of Bryant. The course in Smithfield, RI will be the same course the Blue Devils will face this season for the 2015 NEC Championships.
