Men's Track and Field Wins Three Individual Golds, Places Third in Team Standings at NEC Championships
The Central Connecticut State men's track and field team won three gold medals on the final day of the Northeast Conference championships in Emmitsburg, MD on Sunday.
Eddie Nicholas earned both the Most Valuable Performer (MVP) and Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance) honors for his performance over the weekend.
The Blue Devils surged to a third-place finish in the team standings. Wagner won the overall team title.
KEY TRACK PERFORMANCES
- 100 meter - Miles Fye-Moore placed seventh with a time of 11.12 to score for the Blue Devils.
- 200 meter - Central had a pair of runners place in the finals. Ali Diaby took second in 21.48, while Fye-Moore was fifth in 21.74.
- 400 meter - Diaby would win gold for Central with a time of 47.73, besting his qualifying time in the prelims by over a second.
- 800 meter - Jake Ireland narrowly missed a spot on the podium with a time of 1:54.58 to place fourth.
- 1500 meters - Ireland would turn in a second-place finish with a time of 3:54.39 to win silver.
- 5000 meters - Eddie Nicholas placed fourth with a time of 14:56.09 and scored five points for CCSU.
- 110m Hurdles - Cam Whalen turned in a fourth-place finish with a time of 15.46 in the final.
- 400m Hurdles - Whalen earned bronze with a time of 53.99.
- 3000m Steeple - Nicholas won his second event of the weekend, turning in an IC4A qualifying time of 9:11.17. Salvatore Masciarelli also scored, placing eighth with a time of 9:47.40.
- 4x100m Relay - The Blue Devils' "A" relay won the event with a time of 41.26, which also qualified for the IC4A.
KEY FIELD PERFORMANCES
- Javelin - Logan Ratcliff won silver with a throw of 60.81m, while Chizi Umunakwe placed sixth with a mark of 51.24m.
- Hammer - Andrew McCarthy posted a throw of 47.80m to place sixth and score for the Blue Devils
- Long Jump - Isreal Henriques-Setho narrowly missed scoring with a mark of 6.49m.
