Men's Track and Field Opens Competition at NEC Indoor Championships

The Central Connecticut men opened competition at the Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday at Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility in Staten Island, NY. Junior Andrew McCarthy and freshman Israel Henriques-Setho scored points for CCSU on the first day.The Blue Devils are in seventh place with 10 points after the first day. FDU leads with 38 points.

TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 60m Hurdles - Junior Cam Whalen qualified for Monday's final, running a 8.46 to qualify with the fourth-fastest time. 
  • 60m Dash - Senior Miles Fye-Moore (7.01) and sophomore Jovan Dixon (7.02) both clocked Top-10 times in the prelims.
  • Mile Run - Freshman Nick Klaiber clocked the Blue Devils' top time with a 4:25.81.
  • 400m Dash - Freshman Ali Diaby qualified for the final with a time of 49.40 in heat 1 of the prelims.
  • 500m Dash - Sophomore Shawn Akomeah had the 10th-fastest time in the prelims with a time of 1:07.55.
  • 200m Dash - Fye-Moore turned in the second-fastest time with a mark of 21.86.
  • 3000m Run - Freshman James Sullivan just missed scoring, placing ninth with a time of 8:38.61.
  • Weight Throw - Junior Andrew McCarthy placed fifth with a toss of 16.19m to earn four points.
  • Long Jump - Freshman Israel Henriques-Setho earned a bronze with a mark of 7.02m to earn six points.

The championships continue on Monday with the triple jump beginning the day at 9:15 a.m.
