The Central Connecticut men's and women's outdoor track teams will compete in the 2021 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track Championships on Saturday May 1 and Sunday May 2 in Smithfield, RI. Fans will not be permitted, but all events will be streamed on necfrontrow.com.
Day 1 morning consists of track at 8:00 am, field at 9:30 am, and throws at 9:30 am. The afternoon is scheduled as track at 3:30 pm, field at 3:00 pm, and throws at 3:00 pm.
The morning of day 2 features track, field, and throws all at 9:30 am. The afternoon will have track, field, and throws at 2:30 pm.
MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
The men have been running well as of late, finishing in first place at AIC, Vermont, and the Blue Devils Invite. Freshman Eddie Nicholas has twice been named the NEC Track Athlete of the Week and the NEC Rookie of the Week three times. Andrew McCarthy was once named the NEC Field Athlete of the Week. Last season, the Blue Devils finished as the runner-up in the Northeast Conference Championships. The team collected 12 medals and totaled 150 points, which was behind the first place Saint Francis U who scored 192 points. Richard Grudzwick took home the gold in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:51.10.
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
The women's track team has a pair of second place finishes at AIC and the CCSU Blue Devil Invite, but has yet to win a meet this season. Senior Hailey Rospierski and junior Angie Rafter have each been crowned as NEC Track Athletes of the Week. The women are the reigning Northeast Conference Champions, after finishing in first place in 2019 to capture the programs first outdoor title. The team earned a total of 118 points, just half a point ahead of NEC runner-up Sacred Heart. Rafter took second in the women's 800 meter run with a time of 2:13.72, whie Rospierski added five points for CCSU.
