Central Predicted to Finish Third in NEC Preseason Poll
CCSU received two first place votes.
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team was predicted to finish third and received two first place nods in the 10-team Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll announced by the league's front office on Friday, Jan. 10. The Red Flash of Saint Francis U were the preseason favorite receiving five first place votes.
The Blue Devils took fourth place at the 2019 NEC Indoor Track and Field Championship totaling 98 points. LIU Brooklyn was crowned the champions totaling 127 points.
CCSU returns seniors Kevorni Welsh and Roberto Piotto. Welsh was the 2019 NEC long jump champion with a personal best 7.11 meter jump. He was also the runner-up in the high jump with a leap of 1.98 meters. Piotto won two medals of his own. He was crowned the 5,000 meter champion and earned the bronze in the 3,000 meter. Both were named to the 2019 NEC All-First Team.
The men's indoor track and field team competes today at the Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, N.H.
