Norstrom Breaks 3K School Record at CCSU Blue Devil Invite
Central won by a margin of 204 points on Saturday.
Leading a countless number of top-notch Central Connecticut performances was junior Alex Norstrom, who broke the 3,000 meter run school record on Saturday at the 2018 CCSU Blue Devil Invite in New Britain, CT. Norstrom crossed the finish line in first place at a program best time of 8:36.64, erasing the 19-year old 3K record of 8:38.00 set back in 1999 by Leo Mayo.
The Blue Devils won by a more than convincing margin with 334 points. Franklin Pierce was the next closest team with 130 points and Hartford finished third with 82 points.
Sophomore Roberto Piotto won the 1,500 meter run while shattering his old personal best time of 4:10.88 with a new fastest run of 4:02.14.
The men's 4x100 meter relay won with a season best time of 42.11 seconds over Franklin Pierce. Freshman Darius Wise, senior Tyler Latham, freshman Miles Fye-Moore and senior Darryn Horner led the charge.
CCSU went 1-2-3-4 in the long jump, led by sophomore Marquis Ward with a personal record jump of 6.90 meters. Sophomore Kevorni Welsh was second with a collegiate best mark of 6.74 meters and taking third place was sophomore Jack St. Clair with a mark of 6.70 meters. Rounding out the quartet for CCSU was sophomore Jarred Creech with a jump of 6.44 meters. Sophomore Evan Walker also placed seventh in the event with a jump of 6.01 meters.
Taking third place in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase was senior Kyle Welch with a time of 10:28.11.
Sophomore Nana Kissi won the shot put with a mark of 13.88 meters. Junior KJ Smith took second place with a mark of 13.64 meters and Freshman Jack Godfrey placed third with a mark of 12.53 meters.
Sophomore Jack St. Clair won the 400 meter run with a time of 51.01 meters.
Sophomore Richard Grudzwick won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.02. Junior Adonys Langual was second with a time of 1:58.11 and sophomore Julio Arredondo placed third and clocked in at 1:59.90 meters.
The Blue Devils swept the 400 meter hurdles with Latham besting the field with a new personal record time of 54.56. Sophomore Matt Baum posted a new personal record time of 56.55 and junior Quincy Sanchez took third with a time of 57.07.
Rookie Miles Fye-Moore placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.78. Junior Jero Sneh took fifth with a time of 23.54.
Senior Darryn Horner won the 100 meter dash with a personal best time of 11.00 seconds. Wise took third with a time of 11.09 seconds. Fye-Moore set a personal record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.14 seconds to place fifth. Sneh was sixth with a time of 11.34 seconds. Walker finished ninth, clocking in at 11.62 seconds.
Ward won the high jump with a mark of 1.99 meters and sophomore Amaziah Gadson was second with a height of 1.94 meters.
Senior Sam Borecki claimed top honors in the pole vault with a mark of 4.85 meters. Freshman Jeremy Hopwood was second with a mark of 4.40 meters and fellow rookie Gordon Perrett was third with a personal best mark of 3.80 meters.
Welsh won the triple jump with a mark of 13.67 meters and Creech was second with a personal record jump of 13.66 meters. Sophomore Tyrik Henry placed third with a mark of 12.58 meters.
Sanchez won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.05 seconds and Henry was second with a time of 17.32 seconds.
Grudzwick, Arredondo, Langual and Baum ran a 4x400 meter relay time of 3:29.57 seconds.
Freshman Christian Heyward won the discus throw with a personal record mark of 39.40 meters. Kissi followed in second place with a personal record mark of 35.63 meters. Smith finished third, throwing a career best mark of 34.21 meters and Godfrey was fifth (28.82m).
In the javelin, Smith placed third with a throw of 49.11 meters. Kissi finished fourth with a mark of 47.36 meters.
Following the final tune up, CCSU men's track and field will look to defend their four-straight NEC titles as they travel to Emmitsburg, MD for the 2018 Northeast Conference Championship on May 5-6.
