Latham Sits In SCSU Decathlon Driver's Seat After Day One
Senior Tyler Latham leads the SCSU Decathlon with 3,626 points.
Seniors Tyler Latham and Sam Borecki took their talents to Jess Dow Field at Southern Connecticut State on Thursday to compete in the Decathlon at the Northeast Combined Events Challenge. Latham currently leads the field of 16 other competitors with a total of 3,626 points through the first five events. Borecki sits in 10th place after earning 3,189 points on the first of the two day event.
The Northeast Combined Events Challenge welcomes athletes from Southern Connecticut, Northeastern, Rhode Island, UConn, Bryant and UMass Lowell.
The duo kicked off the 10-event challenge in the 100 meter dash. Latham took second place with a time of 11.25 seconds and Borecki placed sixth with a time of 11.47 seconds. Latham's 6.75 meter long jump earned him another second place result and Borecki fell into ninth place with a mark of 6.20 meters.
In the third event of the decathlon, the shot put, Latham was fourth with a throw of 12.51 meters and Borecki was 16th with a distance of 9.11 meters.
Latham continued his succes in the high jump event, tying for third place after clearing the 1.87 meter mark. Borecki tied for fifth place with a height to 1.84 meters. The Blue Devils rounded out day one of the Decathlon with the 400 meter dash. Latham racked in another second place finish with a time of 51.63 seconds and Borecki took seventh, turning in a time of 52.41 seconds.
The Decathlon will resume tomorrow, Friday, at 10:00 a.m. with the 110m hurdles followed by the discus throw, pole vault, javelin and will conclude with the 1,500 meter run.
