Trainor, Smith Qualify for Day Two of New England Championships
The Blue Devils will kick off Saturday New England Championship action at 10:30 a.m.
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team qualified two athletes to day two of the New England Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, MA.
Senior Austin Trainor qualified for the 1,000 meter run finals while winning his heat with a scorching time of 2:28.99. Sophomore Julio Arredondo also ran the 1,000 meter and turned in a time of 2:32.69.
The Blue Devils will compete in the 200 meter dash finals tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. thanks to junior Akiel Smith who took first place in his heat with a time of 22.20 seconds. Rookie Miles Fye-Moore ran a 23.09 time but did not qualify.
Junior Mike Lang smashed his old personal record long jump distance of 6.76 meters with a huge jump of 6.99 meters today to win his flight.
In the 500 meter dash, junior Matt Baum finished in 1:08.30 and junior Adonys Langual ran time of 1:09.21. Freshman Jonathan Gill missed a personal record 800 meter run by .10 of a second after crossing the finish line at 1:56.18.
The Blue Devils will resume action tomorrow with the triple jump at 10:30 a.m. featuring CCSU sophomore Marquis Ward.
