Blue Devils Have Superb Showing at Boston University on Saturday
Eight personal records were set by the Blue Devils at the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
The Central Connecticut men's track and field team had record showing at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday, January 27. The Blue Devils challenged their largest field of competition this season, consisting of just under 1,500 student-athletes representing 80 universities. The meet also featured hundred of post-collegiate athletes competing for a wide variety of club programs.
Junior Adonys Langual ran a personal best time of 1:57.55 in the 800 meter run. Sophomore Jack St. Clair paced CCSU in the 400 meter run with a great personal record time of 50.52. Junior Franklin Bartley Jr. and freshman Marcris Webb also competed in the event posted two personal bests, running times of 51.58 and 52.59, respectively.
In the 60 meter hurdles, senior Tyler Latham ran a time of 8.62 seconds and junior Franklin Bartley Jr. finished in 8.71 seconds.
Senior Mike Lang captured a personal best long jump of 6.76 meters to place eighth for CCSU. Latham leapt 6.58 meters and Jack St. Clair jumped 6.26 meters to lead three others in the event.
In the shot put, sophomore Nana Kissi threw a collegiate best 13.95 meters placing 13th overall, freshman Jefferey Godfrey 13.09 meters, freshman Neil Tompkins threw 11.88 meters, and freshman J'Von Brown threw for 12.92 meters.
Junior Matt Baum ran a collegiate best 500 meter time of 1:07.38. Sophomore Julio Arredondo ran a 2:32.54 in the 1,000 meter run for CCSU. The 200 meter dash event highlight three personal records for freshman Miles Fye-Moore (22.26s), rookie Darius Wise (22.45s) and sophomore Evan Walker (22.62s). Junior Jero Sneh also ran a time of 23.20 and junior Julio Gil-Martinez finished at 23.41 seconds.
Senior Austin Trainor paced Central in the mile with a time of 4:05.72, good for 20th place overall. Freshman Chris Dency completed the mile in 4:38.96. Junior Alex Norstrom took sixth in the 5K with a time of 14:30.71. Sophomore Roberto Piotto ran in the 5,000 meter also, finishing in 14:44.77 and senior Ryan Hertzog crossed the finish line at 15:31.58.
The men's 4x400 meter relay 'A' team of St. Clair, Langual, Latham and Baum continued the Blue Devils success day with a season best time of 3:24.10, placing 14th out of 33 teams. The 'B' squad consisting of Wise, Trainor, Arredondo and Fye-Moore also ran a 3:33.74 time.
Rookie David Kerns was Central's lone representative in the 3,000 meter run, finishing at 9:25.75.
Four-year veteran pole-vaulter Sam Borecki took fifth overall with a jump of 4.80 meters to lead CCSU. Sophomore Amaziah Gadson tied for fourth overall in the high jump with a leap of 1.95 meters and sophomore Marquis Ward following in a tie for sixth place at the 1.95 meter bar.
Five Blue Devils competed in the triple jump and were led by Ward with a distance of 13.80 meters falling into 12th place. Glymph was right behind in 14th place with a mark of 1360 meters and sophomore Jarred Creech jumped 12.54 meters, Walker leapt 12.26 meters and Gadson finished with a distance of 12.17 meters.
The Central Connecticut men's track and field team will compete at the New England Championships next Friday, February 2 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, MA
