Hjertsson Named NEC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Central Connecticut men's soccer freshman Erik Hjertsson was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week it was announced on Tuesday. The rookie foward tallied five points (two goals, one assist) in a pair of league victories for the Blue Devils last week.
Hjertsson totaled five points last week, helping Central Connecticut slam the brakes on a seven-match losing streak by posting back-to-back victories. The freshman forward scored twice and contributed an assist during CCSU's seven-goal outburst against NEC opponents. Hjertsson sent a ball into the right corner of the net in the 78th minute of a 4-1 road win over Mount St. Mary's. Three days later, he logged a goal and an assist in CCSU's 3-0 shutout of Howard. Hjertsson opened the scoring against Howard, winning a 1v1 situation in the 25th minute. Later, he assisted on the Blue Devils' second goal of the game, which came in the 64th minute.
Hjertsson was joined by junior Jason Dubrovich on the league's Prime Performers list, also announced on Tuesday.
Central travels to Saint Francis U. on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
