Four Earn NEC Men's Soccer Accolades
A quartet of Central Connecticut men's soccer standouts were recognized by the Northeast Conference with postseason honos it was announced on Thursday by the league. Junior Sean Gannon and freshman Ivan Farias-Martinez earned Second Team All-Northeast Conference recognition, while freshmen Zane Brown and Kacper Skonieczny were named to the NEC All-Rookie Team.
Gannon, a junior from Coventry, CT, captained the Blue Devils and started all seven games. He led the team with seven points and three assists, to go along with a pair of goals. Gannon was 2-for-2 on penalty kicks this season, and he had a pair of games with a goal and an assist (vs. Mount St. Mary's, vs. FDU). Gannon has started all 39 career games at CCSU, while notching four goals and four assists.
Farias-Martinez joined the Blue Devils from Los Angeles, CA. The freshman made an immediate impact, sliding into his role on the right side of the CCSU defense. He started all six games he played in and helped Central post a pair of shutouts. The 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on March 22, was the first cleansheet for CCSU since October 31, 2018.
Brown, a freshman, came to Central from Middle Island, NY, and jumped into the starting lineup in the CCSU attack. Brown started all seven games, providing the CCSU attack with dangerous pace from the wing. He helped the Blue Devils rank second in the NEC at 1.57 goals per game and post their most NEC wins since 2015.
Skonieczny is a freshman from North Haven, CT. He started all seven games for CCSU and tallied a team-leading three goals on just 13 shots. He ranked fifth in the league in goals and goals per game. Skonieczny tallied a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in a shutout victory at Bryant on April 5, for which he was named the league's co-Player and Rookie of the Week.
