Skonieczny Earns Weekly NEC Men's Soccer Honors
Central Connecticut men's soccer freshman Kacper Skonieczny was named the Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Co-Player and Rookie of the Week it was announced on Tuesday by the league office. Skonieczny scored a pair of goals to help the Blue Devils to a 4-0 win over Bryant on April 5.
Skonieczny tallied two goals to move his team-leading goal total to three goals. He scored the eventual game-winner at the 15:14 mark of the first half off of a CCSU corner kick. He doubled his goal total in the game under 10 minutes before halftime when he picked up a Bryant giveaway and dribbled in one-on-one and put his shot into the net to make it 2-0. He has totaled three goals on the year and is tied for fifth in the NEC. He also ranks eighth in the league with six points on the campaign.
CCSU will host Sacred Heart on April 12 at 2:00 p.m. to close the regular season. The Blue Devils are currently 3-2-1 and in third-place in the standings. The top two teams in the regular-season will meet in the NEC Championship game, to be hosted by St. Francis Brooklyn, the No. 1 overall seed, at a date and time to be determined.
