Men's Soccer Shuts Out Sacred Heart on Sunday
The Blue Devils earned their first clean sheet in NEC play.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team scored in the first half and made the goal the stand up in a 1-0 win at Sacred Heart on Sunday in Northeast Conference action. Sophomore Andres Muriel Albino score just over a minute before halftime and the CCSU defense did not allow a shot on goal in the win.
Central improved to 5-7-2 overall and 2-2 in NEC play with the victory. Sacred Heart falls to 3-8-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the league.
The Blue Devils fired off seven shots in the opening period, but the game was scoreless until junior Louis Beddouri set up Albino on the left side of the box and he put home the lone goal of the game at the 43:43 mark.
The goal was Albino's team-leading sixth of the season, while Beddouri picked up his fifth assist of the season to tie for the team-high.
The Pioneers would be unable to find a goal to tie the game. SHU would fire 10 shots in the game, but junior Carson D'Ambrosio would not have to make any saves, while picking up his first shutout of the season.
Central finished the game with a 12-10 advantage in shots, while the Pioneers had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
CCSU will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 22, when it travels to Fairleigh Dickinson for a 5:00 p.m. contest.
